about

Uma Chine presents “Changes”, its second album. Main ingredients are three female voices, carried by bold rhythms and delicately interlaced with analogue synthesizers.
Uma Chine knows how to create a particular energy both live and on record. The band is characterized by layered voices, distorted guitars and synths, and original twists within the songs. Uma Chine wants to tell stories, diluted with a good dose of imagination. “Changes”, Uma Chine's second album, is loaded with magical realism.

Changes is an album about the subconscious that reveals itself to us through dreams. Where at night even past and present can be confused, during the day fresh insights emerge like germs above ground, and they change us. This album describes turning points caused by that subconscious mind.

“Changes”, the album's title track, is about making choices that are initially scary and uncomfortable. “Visits”, then, is a song about the loss of memory - and filling our own memories with what we think we still know. And sometimes we believe we've forgotten things, but they come back in our dreams. "Hold" describes such a dream.

De Gussem: “I believe that the most important ideas come to us, they want to impose themselves on our consciousness. The only thing we can do is listen quietly and examine them without fear. ”

"This album was written with the band's musicians in mind." De Gussem explains. Twin sisters Rana and Sherien Holail Mohamed experimented with the possibilities that their complementary voices offer; instrumentalists Gilles Vandecaveye-Pinoy, Simon Raman and Nils Vermeulen and mixer / co-producer Peter Desmedt then polished the songs to their final form. While Uma Chine's debut was still a bit all over the place, “Changes” has definitely become a solid whole.
